John Davis: A Tour of the Other Side and a Message From Jesus

John Davis describes dying for seven minutes at age 21 after an allergic reaction to anesthesia in 1987, being guided by a spirit named Alan through an orientation center, reunion gardens, a life review, libraries and more, and finally meeting Jesus, who told him, "You must tell them there is no death."

Duration: 7 minutes (pronounced dead)

Medical Details

In 1987, at age 21, John crashed a moped into a tree and tore the tendons off his right hand. During surgery to reattach them, he had an allergic reaction to the anesthesia given by IV, which stopped his heart. He says he was pronounced dead for seven minutes and that the team had to use the paddles on him six times to bring him back.

The Experience

In 1987, John Davis was 21 and facing his first surgery, to repair tendons torn in a moped accident. As the anesthesia went in, he had an allergic reaction and his heart stopped. He closed his eyes and, the very next second, found himself in the most beautiful building he had ever seen. He didn't realize he had died; his first thought was that he had no idea the hospital was so large.

The building was a long white marble corridor lined with tall columns, marble tables with benches, and dark tunnel-like doorways. A spirit guide introduced himself as Alan and explained everything John saw. Looking into one tunnel, John saw stars and galaxies. From another came an elderly man holding his chest, who Alan said had died of a heart attack. A woman at one of the tables rose, took his hands and gently sat with him. Alan called this the orientation center, where people who walk into the light are helped to remember they are home. As John watched, the man changed into a man in his thirties, then walked down into a beautiful, manicured garden for reunions with loved ones who had crossed before him.

Alan led John to a round theater where screens all around him played scenes from his life, from infancy to age 21. In another marble building he was shown what he was told were three of his past lives: a monk teaching children, a shoe peddler with a wheelbarrow, and a village fisherman. Raised Catholic, John says this was very hard for him to believe at the time.

In a vast stadium like a planetarium, a voice showed him our solar system and then millions of planets, telling him there is far more life in the universe than we know. He visited an immense library with study rooms, where a woman was watching a battle from Earth's history, and Alan told him everything is recorded. In a castle lined with portraits of royalty, a woman with strawberry blonde hair, a scholar of medieval Europe, asked if she could help him find anything. He still laughs that he answered, "No thanks, I'm just looking." He understood that on the other side people pursue what they love and keep learning.

Finally, Alan left him in a field of flowers. A man appeared in a white robe with a gold sash and gold sandals, his face so full of light John could not make out his features. John knew it was Jesus. He said, "You must tell them there is no death." In that instant, John was back in his body in the operating room.

How It Changed Their Life

He says he has spent the years since sharing what Jesus told him with whoever will listen, to bring people hope that the loved ones they have lost are on the other side.
